chris's journal entry #118; "Woot BOC, No 2!" on 2008-11-23:
Previous Next

So, after getting a 3x "Random Crap" from Woot! a few weeks ago, then missing it during the previous Woot-off, I once again managed to find a Random Crap on my account history at Woot.com. This time, I got to the "how many do you want?" page, tried selecting "I want three", but gave up after about a minute, especially since my tracker websites were reporting under 60% remaining at this point, clicked "continue", then clicked the confirm button on the final page. Shortly after clicking the "This information looks correct" button, I noticed that the PayPal email address tied to my Woot! account was my old email address (the one that just two weeks ago I removed from my PayPal account). This worried me greatly, causing me to quietly utter a string of obscenities and bang my head against the desk. Then, I tried to change my Woot! account to my new primary PayPal email account as quickly as I could (considering their site was still being bogged down to a snail's pace at this time). Upon confirming my new email address, I checked my order history, and lo-and-behold, somehow my order for 1 Random Crap managed to go through, and even receive payment somehow. To be sure, I then checked my PayPal account, and it contained a debit of $6.00 to Woot!. I am now excited and anxiously waiting to see what kind of "bag" that I will receive, as well as what my "crap" will be, and whether I'll get a good haul or not.

Woot Random Crap homepage, 100% remaining!

How many do I want... hmmmmm... maybe three? Clicking "I want 3" doesn't do anything? oh well, I guess I'll stick with one.

"Server is too busy"? Darn. Maybe pressing F5 will fix this? No, it didn't? Let's try F5 again... success!

Yes, let's get this order into the system already. My trackers are reporting <56% remaining for crying out loud. NOTE: the censored email address is my old email address, which had recently been removed from my PayPal account, of course I noticed this shortly AFTER clicking "buy it". Also, with their servers not responding well, I didn't have any hope of a chance of changing it and still getting a Random Crap.

Hmmm, after checking my account history/info page, it appears that my order did somehow manage to go through. But... did they get the payment from my PayPal account despite having the wrong (deactivated) email address on the order verification page?...

Why yes, they did somehow manage to get my money. It would seem that they store some kind of unique account ID or token or something for the payments billing agreement instead of the email address. I also changed my Woot! account to be associated with my new email address as soon as I could (their servers were still being fairly slow), so maybe somehow I got it changed before their billing processing system got to my order? Whatever the case, my order made it through and I will be getting my Random Crap in a few weeks.
