chris's journal entry #103; "No Updates Since... Forever!" on 2007-06-14:
Previous Next

It has been a really long time since I've gotten around to posting much of anything new on here. With finals (including major projects which I had procrastinated on for a little too long) and May term, I never really bothered to post a new "blog" entry on my site. Well, here it is!

Firstly, the end of the semester went well, and I passed all of my classes, and got all of my assignments done, as unbelievable as that may have seemed during the third-from-last week of classes. I also won an award during the honors banquet, "Lakeland College Outstanding Student Award", for Computer Science, but didn't attend the awards ceremony because of the bad weather (which really ticks me off now). Also, some friends wrote a bunch of digits of pi on a long sheet of paper toweling as a banner and apparently did, or planed to, display it during the ceremony.

After all the craziness of finishing my Complex Analysis homework and Systems Analysis project, the semester was finished. Then I started the May Term class, Computer Video Games Design, and had fun. We had to create a video game (following instructions from a book) every day of class. It taught us how to use the game engine (Game Maker), and also taught some of the basics of programming to those who didn't have any prior background. We also had to make a final program/project, and then played each other's games on the last day of class. My game somehow managed to win "Best Game", and would have won most of the other categories had Mark Stone decided not to allow any game to win in more than one category. No big deal since I didn't really need the bonus points anyways. My game was a 2D "Portal" knock-off where you move a little arrow around and avoid lava pits and have to place portal entrance/exits around to get to the exit for each level. I have a copy on my site, for those of you who are interested.

Since May Term, I've been busy working on Lakeland College's website during the day and PageBuildr during one night most weeks. We are about 99.8% done with launching a much improved appearance admin system, and hope to go live tomorrow night, perhaps. I have recently just started working for the college's biochemistry/bioinformatics research project again, and the work is going okay, but since we are kind of plowing blindly forward (with some guidance), we are having some difficulty with getting things to work properly.

And lastly, my cow-orker (yes, a person who orks cows), and now my official boss, Neal, has just gotten married this last Saturday. There was a nice little party thrown in the office last Wednesday as a surprise for him, with a cake and everything. He has taken this week off for his honeymoon, so I'm working alone at Lakeland, but getting some progress on a new live webchat feature so that prospective students can chat live with admissions counselors and perhaps other people on campus.
