News item #96; "Haxorizing" on 07/11/05:
Previous Next
Somebody tried to hack/snoop/cause trouble on my website while I was gone on the Science Club camping trip (Journal entry to come soon about that.) The attempted breach took place in about 6 minutes starting at ~11:40 PM on July 9th. The attack mostly tried accessing "formmail.pl"-type files, so it appears they were trying to use my website to send spam. Fortunately, none of the filenames they tried actually existed, so their attempts were in vain.

some of the distributed/co-ordinated attacks were "from" computers in the following countries:
Great Britain, Pennsylvania, Romania, Kuwait, and many other random countries.
It appears that these were a large group of compromised/zombie computers, part of a global spamming syndicate, or were somehow forged and originate from an individual, although this seems to be the least likely explination.
